Welcome To Laramie County Comprehensive Plan
Planning integrates economic, social and environmental issues into a single practice. We do this through the implementation of the Laramie County Comprehensive Plan. The Plan provides vision and goals to evaluate growth on multiple levels to develop appropriate infrastructure, to plan for critical services, to lay the foundation for economic prosperity and to preserve our Western heritage. Good planning relies on the participation of County citizens. We encourage you to be involved in our planning efforts.
The Board of Laramie County Commissioners, the Laramie County Planning Commission and the Laramie County Planning and Development Office are updating the Laramie County Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan was last updated in 2001. In the past 10 years, Laramie County has seen changes in development patterns, a rise in population and the beginning of the Niobrara shale oil development. These changes bring impacts to Laramie County that were not predicted in the 2001 Plan. The goal of the update to the Comprehensive Plan is to look at the County’s growth over the past 10 years, assess the development pressures and opportunities the community sees today, and to assess the long-term vision the community has for Laramie County.
We are in the process of conducting one-on-one interviews and having conversations with citizens throughout the County. These conversations are meant to help us get a better idea of what our citizens want for the future of Laramie County. If you would like to be involved, please contact us at (307) 633-4303 or email us at Planning@laramiecounty.com.
Laramie County Planning has partnered with the University of Wyoming to provide additional resources for our update to the Comprehensive Plan. One University project involved analysis of the natural resources component of Laramie County’s 2001 Comprehensive Plan. Students evaluated the goals and policies in our 2001 plan and compared them to communities throughout our region and the United States. Their analysis provided insight into the overall effectiveness and sustainability of the 2001 Comprehensive Plan and will help us as a community to develop clear goals for our Plan update. On January 26, 2012, Professor William Gribb presented an overview of the results of his students’ research to the Planning Commission. These results are being compiled into a report that will be presented to Laramie County this spring. Click here to view slides from the presentation.
